3D Model Design Win
Design Manager Mark Brookes is delighted after gaining prestigious industry recognition for his steel fabrication designs. His Crinan lock gates design won the miscellaneous category and Beverley Station heritage footbridge balustrade earned an honorary mention.
Autodesk design software licence provider Graitec UK hosts two user events in the UK where they showcase cutting-edge insights, new tips and tricks and announce model competition winners.
Mark decided to enter the competition for the first time this year submitting four models generated using Autodesk Advanced Steel.
1. Beverley Station – heritage footbridge balustrade
2. Boulby footbridge – footbridge over railway
3. Crinan Canal lock gates – upper and lower sets of lock gates
4. Flint Station - access for all full steelwork
Users can enter any developed model in the architectural, structural and miscellaneous categories which are judged, blind, by a product manager from the software developer, Autodesk.
The competition standard was high with 68 entries in total, but Mark’s Crinan Canal lock gates was announced as the winner of the miscellaneous category with an honorary mention of the architectural category.
The judge, Piotr Pysz, Product Manager Steel Structures at Autodesk, commented: “It is always refreshing to see something different from the usual structural stuff. This is a nice blend of typical steel detailing with a mechanical engineering twist. Congratulations to the author of the project.”
The steel fabrication team has two design managers Mark Brookes and Lawrie Edwards, who perform the interface function between structural designers and our steel fabrication workshop. They both use Advance Steel and several other Autodesk design software products licenced by provider Graitec UK to generate the 3D models, sub-assembly drawings and part drawings to enable steel procurement, fabrication and welding in the workshop. The duo provides a vital element of the expertise we combine to create complex and innovative design, manufacturing and construction packages.
Reece Jones, AmcoGiffen Steelwork Fabrication Manager said: “Congratulations to our talented Design Manager, Mark on his success and well-deserved recognition, his exceptional talent inspires others and we’re proud to have him in our team.
“Our steel fabrication workshop has come a long way over recent years growing from a four-person workshop to a 41-person-strong multi-skilled team of fabrication specialists. We offer a wide range of services and products from end to end, including bespoke specialist projects – all of which wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable skills and experience that Mark and Lawrie provide.”
AmcoGiffen is certified by the RQSC for bridgeworks in recognition of our skills, experience and capabilities in the construction and installation of large and complex steel structures, as coordinated by the BCSA.
