AMCO Shortlisted For ICE Award 2017
The shortlist for the ICE Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2017 have been announced and AMCO has been recognised for the works undertaken at White Cross Lane Railway Overbridge.
The ICE Yorkshire and Humber Awards were set up in recognition of the region’s most outstanding projects for excellence or innovation in civil engineering. White Cross Lane Overbridge is one of five schemes shortlisted under the Smeaton Award category for projects valued between £500k and £5m.
White Cross Lane was a 5 span steel overbridge which crossed the Sheffield to Barnsley line and provides the only access to the small hamlet of Swaithe. Built at the turn of the century the structure was showing signs of corrosion and a vehicle weight restriction had been imposed. Network Rail appointed Arcadis to design a complete new bridge, AMCO undertook the construction works.
Due to both the rural location and land access issues a temporary Bailey bridge was installed allowing local residents continued access to the surrounding area. The new bridge is now installed and fully operational.
Shortlist results will be announced in March at the Gala Dinner to be held at the National Railway Museum in York.
