AmcoGiffen Earns the NR STAR Award!
Recognised for our dedication to safety and sustainability, AmcoGiffen are proud to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Network Rail STAR award for our site at Cowley Junction in Exeter.
Receiving 2 stars for raising the bar well above expectations, Network Rail’s Star programme recognises and rewards sites, work groups or compounds that exceed high levels of health, safety and environmental risk control. With assessments covering supervision and management, environmental and public consideration, and safety and site-specific matters, a site must gain at least 90% to achieve a STAR award.
As part of Network Rail’s wider enhancement programme for flood resilience, following the storms of 2014, our team, supply chain (SWRSL/MJC), and designers (OVE ARUP) were charged with removing the mainline track in an area prone to flooding, while remediating inadequate ground conditions. This was undertaken prior to installing the 24 precast concrete chambers with an 80 ton excavator, before back-filling and relaying the track. All works were completed ahead of programme, ensuring heightened safety, efficiency, and reliability for passengers.
