Engineering Success At The RICS Awards
AMCO Engineering’s Woolwich Ferry Linkspans project collected a well-deserved accolade on Wednesday 4th May, when it scooped the 2016 RICS London Awards prize in the Infrastructure Category.
The awards ceremony was held at the Lancaster London Hotel and was hosted by TV presenter, Julia Bradbury. The event was attended by members of the Woolwich Ferry project team from AMCO Engineering, Briggs Marine, Transport for London and Fairfield Control Systems, who were all delighted to share in the honour of receiving the award.
The RICS Awards, London celebrate the most inspirational built initiatives in the region, which are not only of significant benefit to their local communities, but to London’s future growth.
Commenting on Woolwich Ferry project, the judges said:
This centuries old ferry service was last upgraded in the 1960’s when roll-on-roll-off facilities were installed. Now that Transport for London is committed to continuing the service for at least another 20 years with new ferries currently under construction, upgrading and strengthening of the Linkspans and related equipment was essential.
The scheme has been well planned and executed without having to close the ferry service at any stage. The resulting speed up in loading times should ensure that the ferry achieves the objective of six crossings per hour.
