Dedicated to protecting the environments of the communities we serve, AmcoGiffen were pleased to successfully avert a potential crisis while working on the Driffield Train Station bridge scaffold last week.
Noticing an oil film on the surface of the stream below, along with black oil coming out of one of the clay drainage pipes at the side of the structure, our site team rapidly soaked up and bagged all the pooled oil, ensuring the remaining substance flowed into additional bags. We then used the remaining spill kit to stop the oil reaching Driffield Canal at the trash screen, 70m downstream.
Collecting the majority of the matter, and reporting the incident to the relevant governing bodies, our team prevented over 95% of the oil from reaching the canal, safeguarding the habitat of hundreds of trout and additional water-life.
