Flood alleviation works at Cowley Bridge
Progressing with the enabling works at Cowley Bridge ahead of the main flood alleviation works, AmcoGiffen has successfully completed the temporary culvert installation to bridge over the Exe backwater, allowing access to the main works which will take place later this summer.
Aiming to safeguard the railway infrastructure against flooding, and deliver a more sustainable solution for the future, AmcoGiffen’s internal environmental compliance team were heavily engaged during the early design development phase, closely liaising with the Environment Agency to secure approval of the temporary Flood Risk Application Permit (FRAP).
Continuation of the site access haul road installation over the Exe back water to the main worksite is ongoing, ensuring that we are fully prepared for the implementation of the permanent works, ultimately providing increased flow capacity through both the existing high flow culvert and the new flood relief culvert to safeguard the railway infrastructure, and all travellers
