Leamington Lift Bridge refurbishment unveiled
AmcoGiffen in Scotland is proud to confirm the successful completion of our contract to refurbish the historic Leamington Lift Bridge over the Union Canal at Lochrin Basin in Edinburgh for our stakeholders - Scottish Canals and Sustrans.
Constructed around 1906, it is the only hydraulic bridge on the Union Canal, a Scheduled Monument. It lifts the road to give clearance for boats to pass underneath with pedestrians crossing the adjoining lattice footbridge when it is raised. The bridge now forms part of Route 75 of the National Cycle Network.
We have blast cleaned the structure, undertaken essential repairs, dismantled and refurbished the adjoining lattice footbridge and applied a new protective coating – ensuring that Leamington continues to fully function for years to come for the benefit of canal users, the canalside communities and cyclists.
With a number of upcoming Edinburgh Festival Fringe events planned for in and around Lochrin Basin during August we anticipate that the influx of visitors from around the world will be impressed with the finished product.
It follows hot on the heels of another best in class project delivered for our valued customer Scottish Canals - upgrading the gondola gates at the iconic Falkirk Wheel.
