Preserving the Education of the Nation
Dedicated to CSR and the preservation of our industry, alongside the training and education of the nation, AmcoGiffen were pleased to be invited to The University of Manchester to support the department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.
Working collaboratively with Network Rail to assist a student group coursework project, based on the refurbishment and structural strengthening of the tenant arches in Manchester, we were well placed to pass on our existing knowledge and experience. Conducting a number of site visits with the undergraduates and postgraduates, and introducing them to many of the safety and environmental considerations presented by the project, we were able to provide them with a solid foundation on which to build.
In addition, our very own Head of Engineering, Stuart Thomas, presented a lecture to circa 100 students, and answered their questions on topics including design, construction design management regulations (CDM), and temporary works.
Lecturer, Dr William Collinge, stated that “the support of both Network Rail and AmcoGiffen was an excellent way for the students to gain the necessary insight in to how projects are delivered and the many elements that need to be considered and managed”.
