Spade in the Ground Event at Scarborough Bridge
The prestigious Scarborough Bridge ‘Spade in the Ground’ event took place at our site in York this morning, marking the beginning of 6 months of engineering enhancement works!
Working in partnership with Network Rail, the plans will see the pedestrian and cycle part of the bridge widened from 1.3 metres to four metres, while ramps will be added to make the bridge more accessible for people using prams or wheelchairs.
The legacy structure is happily situated in one of Yorkshire’s conservation areas, dating all the way back to 1845 - and over 3,000 people use the bridge every day to access the train station, riverside paths and the city centre!
Welcoming representatives from Network Rail, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, CYC Communications, York Council and York’s Archaeological Trust, we all gathered together to celebrate the significant project milestone!
