Successful completion of Up Passenger Loop Track Renewals
AmcoGiffen and Colas Rail, in partnership with Network Rails IP Northern Programmes Enhancements Team, have successfully completed the Up Passenger Loop track renewal at Birkenhead North station, as part of the Merseytravel Platform Train Interface Project providing level access at all Merseytravel Stations and sufficient gauge clearance for the operation of new vehicles being manufactured for use on the network.
Passengers with mobility issues, wheelchair users, and those with buggies, luggage and bikes will be able to get on and off the new trains without assistance, due to the alterations in height of station platforms and track realignment ensuring the new train’s sliding step can meet the platform edge, making the Merseytravel network the most accessible traditional rail network in the UK.
With continued support from our supply chain partners Pod-Trak completion of Birkenhead North equates to 91 of 96 platforms AmcoGiffen and Network Rail have delivered over the last 12 months.
The enhancements delivered at Birkenhead North is another example of the passenger benefits being delivered by AmcoGiffen and Network Rail in affiliation with the Liverpool City Region upgrade, and the Great North Rail Project
