Successfully Completing the Feeder Canal Wall
Collaborating closely with IP Wales and our suppliers, AmcoGiffen successfully completed the feeder canal wall stabilisation project in the centre of Cardiff!
Installing 12m long ground anchors and waler beams to support the retaining wall carrying the Valley line, together with associated masonry repairs, the project was delivered safely and on time – in spite of a family of Mallard ducks setting up residence below the scaffold tower!
To accommodate this, the works were simply re-staged and temporarily aborted until the adult ducks and fledglings vacated the nest.
As well as being a sensitive ecological receptor, the Bute Dock Feeder Canal is also an important industrial watercourse which feeds the Roath and Queen Alexandra Docks in the city, so the engagement and support of local stakeholders was essential to our delivery success.
Chris Wood, Project Manager, IP Wales, commented: “We were impressed by the AmcoGiffen performance with the project being delivered on time to budget and in a safe manner”.
