Taking the local scouts on an adventure!
Taking AmcoGiffen’s 3 day volunteering initiative one step further, Estimator, Geoff Buckley took 2 weeks out of his busy schedule to give back to the youth of his local community.
As part of the St Albans District Scouts summer programme, Geoff and 102 other cubs, scouts, explorer scouts and leaders from around the district embarked on a 2 week expedition to Lochearnhead Scout Station.
Located in The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Lochearnhead Railway Station has been fully restored and converted to provide an adventurous activities base in the Scottish Highlands. As a volunteer led initiative, designed to allow children from all backgrounds to attend, the fortnight included sailing, kayaking, mountain biking, wild camping, mountaineering and much more.
Geoff said “As a district, circa 30 volunteer leaders have committed countless hours over the last 2 years to undergo adventurous activities instructor training, enabling us to maintain and gain new qualifications, providing us with the tools to be self-sufficient in running an adrenalin packed full 2 weeks of activities for Cub, Scouts and Explorer Scouts aged 9-18! All in all it was a fantastic trip!”
