Volunteering for a great cause and at a super location
Volunteering for a great cause, at a super location.
What a difference a couple of weeks make, thank goodness the sun was shining when our Canal and Rivers Trust (CRT) team attended a volunteer day along the Birmingham Canal.
Located in the heart of Birmingham close to the National Indoor Arena our team were initially briefed on the some of the different projects the CRT had undertaken in the area over the past 12 months; these included:
- Making friendship benches & installing wellbeing areas
- Tree planting
- Weeding / planting flower beds
- Installing coir matting rolls – these are created from living organic matter, they look like a huge big fat worm but help prevent erosion and encourages vegetation establishment
This time around tasks included over 30 metres of shrub clearance, which made way for planting new trees and flowers.
Members of our team included: Oliver South, Laura O’Brien, Paul Round, Martin Rayner, Claire Platt, Shaun Hastings, Keith Holland, Rob Long and Johannes Esterhuyse, along with Ben Stilgoe and Simon Griffin from McCombe
AmcoGiffen Contracts Manager Johannes commented “it’s great to be part of the continued regeneration of this area, providing areas where people can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a relaxing walk and time to recharge and unwind”.
