What’s occurring! Being a STEM ambassador can be an absolute pleasure where a bit of fun and learning aids the development of the next generation.
Gavin Petch one of AmcoGiffen’s IT experts and a STEM Ambassador has been visiting Llangattock School just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park, in Monmouthshire, over the last few weeks.
Extending the useful life of near obsolete IT equipment Gavin opened up the laptops and hard drive units to demonstrate exactly how the components fit together and operate. To make it more relevant Gavin took along some photos of a circuit boards and the first IBM hard drive (6mb capacity), explaining that the current most popular games i.e. Fortnite / FIFA etc. need operating systems of between 4GB- 8GB.
The Year 9 pupils get to be hands on performing laptop upgrades by installing additional memory module, SSD Hard Drives before loading on the latest Windows 10 Operating System
